Inspirations

Inspirations
After having completed our research, I knew exactly what I wanted to include yet I did not know exactly how. Having chosen movement as my theme I decided to either create a poster or else a captured scene from a movie.

Illustration artist Denis Zilber was my main inspiration. I wanted to take the characteristics in his work and apply them to mine, that are mainly colour, perspective and even the fun side of the way he creates his works.
Film was going to most certainly be the theme of my work. I was immensely inspired from the film ‘The Prestige’ to create something to do with magic or illusions.
In the design segment I was still uncertain on how I wanted to incorporate organic design. However in the back of my mind I was thinking that I would include some sort of organic architecture in the background of my visual product.
With these ideas in mind, I began my thinking process. I established the fact that my theme was going to include magic, thus I decided my main focus was going to be a magician holding a hat with items or animals exploding from it. Therefore I had a character to create.

However before starting to sketch I wanted to finalise my concept. Looking through works of Denis Zilber I kept stopping at each of his work and each one had a sense of humour in it. That’s when my idea came to me.

Through the theme of magic inspired by the film, I wanted to create a magician caught in the act at one of his shows. In order to give the plot a funny twist, illustrator artist Zilber inspired me to create a rabbit, which would appear to be floating out of the hat in a startled way. With a cigarette hanging down from his mouth, I want him to look as if he was called at the wrong time and is not meant to come out of the magic hat right now. This innocence of the rabbit is also contrasted with the villainy of the magician.
This was going to be my final concept and even though I had not yet fully know how I was going to exactly include movement and design I decided to begin my sketches hoping that I would be inspired as I go along with the process.
